What is the Self-Reliance for Women Program?

At Best African Revelation, we believe that empowering women is essential to creating stronger families and communities. Our Self-Reliance for Women Program is designed to equip African immigrant women with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to become self-sufficient and successful in their new American lives.

Many of the women we support have faced challenges adjusting to a new culture and lifestyle. From navigating the responsibilities of household management to understanding financial systems, we provide tailored training and resources to help them overcome these obstacles. Our program offers a holistic approach that not only addresses practical needs but also builds emotional and mental resilience.

Who Can Join the Program

Our Self-Reliance for Women Program is open to African immigrant women who are:

  • Living in Utah, particularly in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas.

  • Seeking support in learning how to manage their homes, families, and finances effectively.

  • Interested in building new skills for personal and professional growth.

  • Currently living in shelters or transitional housing and in need of guidance to regain stability.

  • Motivated to improve their English language skills, job readiness, and overall self-reliance.

Women who have faced difficulties managing their homes, such as damaging apartments or struggling with credit and financial issues, are encouraged to join our program to receive the tools and support they need to succeed.

Program Structure: What to Expect

The Self-Reliance for Women Program is designed to be both educational and supportive, providing women with practical skills they can immediately apply to their everyday lives.

  • Participants meet once a week for a comprehensive class on various topics essential to achieving self-reliance. These include:

    • Household Management: Learn how to maintain a clean, organized, and safe home environment. This includes tips on cleaning, preventing pests, and maintaining household appliances.

    • Financial Literacy: Get guidance on budgeting, saving money, repairing credit, and understanding how to manage bills.

    • Job Readiness: We offer resume building, job application assistance, and interview preparation to help women enter the workforce confidently.

    • Parenting and Family Care: Our program helps mothers care for their children by providing education on hygiene, healthy cooking, and positive discipline strategies.

  • We recognize that language barriers can be one of the biggest challenges for immigrant women. Through our English language classes, participants will:

    • Learn how to read, write, and speak English to communicate effectively in everyday situations.

    • Gain confidence in expressing themselves during job interviews, doctor's appointments, and other essential interactions.

  • We assist women in finding jobs and integrating into the local community. This includes providing them with resources to apply for jobs, preparing them for interviews, and helping them understand the expectations of the American workplace. Many of our participants have gone on to secure employment in various industries, contributing to their financial independence.

We are always looking for volunteers to teach classes, offer job interview coaching, or mentor women in their journey to self-reliance. If you have experience in household management, financial planning, or career counseling, we would love to have you join our team.

You can contribute by donating funds, household supplies, hygiene kits, diapers, or even gift cards to help these women meet their basic needs. Every donation helps us provide the tools and resources needed to support our participants.
